Blocks of bright rainbow-inspired colors simplify the dense central timeline. The color-coded composition breaks up the vertical grid of text. It was an effective technique to break massive amounts of information into digestible chunks to help visitors understand the historical context and changes of the Jewish LGBTQ experience in Washington, DC and how those events shaped the nation’s history.
Hand-drawn spatial and color studies of the narrow hallway with existing irregular walls. The wall space was limited and even doors were used since the content in the timeline was almost longer than the rest of the exhibit combined!

Interactive photo-op with custom hand-lettered signs inspired by real life activists showcase the intersection of issues across the generations for the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities in the nations capital.

Vibrant fliers from the gay bars, lit by a disco ball, pull the visitor into the far back of the gallery. A floor to ceiling mural of DC plots out LGBTQ+-safe spaces over the past century with Jewish artifacts including a photo-op with DC’s own fabulous Jewish drag queen.
